Welcome to Barrow C.E. Primary School

Saturday, 28 January 2012

Our school is situated in Barrow in rural Cheshire, five miles from the city of Chester. The school has a long history dating back to Victorian times in1865. It still retains its unique character and is a focal point of the village and our vibrant community. When it was first opened, there were only two rooms and a school house for the headteacher. The modern day school consists of three main teaching areas all with interactive whiteboards. There is wireless internet throughout the school and we have a suite of laptops, connected to a server. The school house now contains the administration office, headteachers office and activities room which is used for music and special needs.

The schools grounds are surrounded by fields There is a large playground and an extended playing field for the children to use at break times and for sporting activities. The school has its own pond, orchard and 'wildlife' area where the children can further their environmental studies or sit and relax during pleasant summer days. We also have a large decking area which is used as an outdoor classroom and somewhere for parents to wait for their children. Pictures of the school are available on the website in the gallery.

Standards in our school are very high. In 2010 our pupils sat their year six sats papers. We achieved 100% level 4’s and 100% level 5’s in english, and 100% level 4's and 50% level 5's in Mathematics. Moreover our value added score was 101.1, this demonstrates progress from KS1. Due to the small numbers our results are not published. If you compare this to the KS2 league tables available we would be near the top in ranking in Cheshire West and Chester.

The most unique and special thing about our school is the strong Christian ethos and family atmosphere that permeates throughout the school. This is reflected in the polite and well mannered children and their caring and considerate attitude towards each other and to every one who is part of our team.
Our Church of England school has very strong links with St Bartholomew’s Church. The children regularly take part in worship and we hold our own services throughout the year. Reverend Colin Randall is a school Governor and is a regular visitor to our school taking an active part in school life. The Church website address is - www.stbartholomewbarrow.co.uk
